Casa del Sol Inn: A refreshing new recipe for the traditional brunch

If you believe in nutritionist Adele Davis’s dictum, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper,” you will want to give the Casa del Sol Inn’s breakfast/brunch a try.

The handsomely restored inn has an interesting and elegant interior and unique breakfast/brunch arrangement. Even the music is set gentle enough to help you unwind while you dine.

pg22The fixed single-price menu is a masterwork of traditional and imported breakfasts. Few are missing. There’s Eggs Florentine and Eggs Tuscano to Eggs Benedict and back home again to huevos divorciados and rancheros – a nice selection given eggs’ new nutritional celebrity. A hardy stack of corn pancakes topped with berries and a toasted bagel layered with smoked salmon and cream cheese join the traditional breakfast-egg dish assortment.

Each order comes with a fruit cocktail and a small bread basket, which is really more muffin and fruit and nut cake than bread. What may be unique for many is that each order also comes with the choice of an alcoholic beverage, from Bloody Marys to margaritas to a wonderful Irish coffee with every selection. Given that the menu favors breakfast eaters, other beverages might enhance the drink options. I wasn’t ready for an alcoholic drink, so I was pleased to hear that an off-menu orange juice was available.
