Pacific League baseball returns to Telmex Stadium Saturday

Let’s play ball! The Charros de Jalisco begin their quest to emulate their successful debut season in the Mexican Pacific League (MLB) this weekend with an opener on the road against the Tomateros de Culiacan Friday followed immediately by a return home to take on the same opposition at the Telmex Baseball Stadium in Zapopan Saturday, October 10, 5 p.m. (All but the cheapest seats for this game were sold out at press time.)

After an October 12-14 series in Hermosillo, the Charros are back home for two consecutive three-game series: against the Tomateros again on Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18; and the Mayos de Navojoa on Tuesday, October 20 through Thursday, October 22.

Charros’ Monday to Friday games at the Telmex Stadium start at 8:30 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at noon.  Tickets are available at the stadium box office or through Ticketmaster at 25, 50, 100, 150, 300 and 500 pesos.

Club President Armando Navarro says around 4,000 season tickets have been sold for the upcoming season – a healthy percentage for a stadium with a capacity of 13,000. Last year’s average attendance was 8,000.

Although getting to games will be more complicated this season due to ongoing work on line three of the city’s light train (subway) network, Navarro said the new transportation link will be of great benefit to fans, who will only have to walk a few blocks to the stadium from one of the new stations.

Navarro also announced this week that the club has applied for an 45-year extension on the deal that allows them to use the government-owned Telmex Stadium rent-free. Such a lengthy deal would guarantee future sponsorship and have a hugely beneficial economic impact on the region, he said.   The Charros pay an annual fee of just four million pesos for stadium maintenance.
