Charros make baseball final

The Charros de Jalisco baseball club are in the final of the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) after completing a 4-1 semi-final series victory over the Venados de Mazatlan Thursday night at the Charros Stadium in Zapopan.

pg6bThis is the Charros’s first final since they joined the league five years ago.

The Charros will play either the Cañeros de Los Mochis or Yaquis de Ciudad Obregon in the final. The Cañeros lead that best-of-seven series 3-2, going into Friday’s sixth game.

Guadalajara baseball fans are obviously enjoying the ride this season. A record crowd of over 16,000 showed up for Wednesday evening’s 6-3 triumph over Mazatlan. Tickets for the final series, scheduled to start in the middle of next week (dates unknown at press time), should be available from this weekend at charrosjalisco.com.

The Charros’ joy at reaching their first LMP final was made even more memorable when first baseman Manny Rodriguez was named the league’s MVP.
