New stretch of outer city ring road opens

The pending five-kilometer section of Macrolibramiento (outer city ring road) running between the Guadalajara-Mexico City and Guadalajara-Lagos de Moreno autopistas (toll roads) opened to traffic on April 11.

This connection will aid travelers from the Lake Chapala area heading to central and north-eastern destinations in Mexico (Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, Monterrey, etcetera), as well as to U.S. border crossing points such as Laredo and McAllen.

The Macrolibramiento’s 30-kilometer stretch running from the Guadalajara-Chapala highway to the Lagos de Moreno autopista now costs 52 pesos for regular vehicles.

The road’s second section, the 35-kilometer stretch heading west from the Chapala highway to the Colima autopista, is set to open in July.

For travelers driving from the lakeside area on the Chapala-Guadalajara highway, the Macrolibramiento begins 500 meters before the intersection with Highway 35 to Atequiza and Ocotolan. This is about 11 kilometers from the start of the Chapala-Ajijic Libramiento (bypass) and 12 kilometers before the Guadalajara International Airport.
