Distinguished business school opens Guadalajara branch

Dignitaries this week cut the ribbon at the Guadalajara campus of an august educational institution that has been preparing young Mexicans for the cut-and-thrust world of business for the past 88 years.

The ninth Escuela Bancaria y Comercial (EBC) campus in Mexico is located in a brand-new development in Colonia Ciudad de Sol (on the former Kodak facility), just off Avenida Mariano Otero, a few blocks from Plaza del Sol. With 19 hand-picked professors, the school has a capacity to cater to 1,500 students, who can study for a variety of business-related bachelor’s degrees or MBAs.

The EBC was established in 1929 by Manuel Gómez Morín, the founder of the business-friendly National Action Party (PAN). A number of well-known business and political notables have passed through its doors over the decades. The institution’s scholarship program, created in 2005, awards grants to talented people with financial limitations who are seeking quality higher education.
