Plaza Patria’s new ‘super’

Supermarket chain La Comer (Comercial Mexicana) has opened a new upmarket store in Zapopan’s Plaza Patria, adjoining Colonia Seattle.

The City Market outlet is the chain’s eighth in Mexico but its first in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

According to a company press release, the 3,497-square-meter branch cost 200 million pesos to build, sells 81,000 products, has 400 parking spaces, and offers customers more than 2,000 different brands of wines and spirits, boasting what it claims is “the most complete cava (wine cellar) in the state of Jalisco.”

Catering to a more upmarket clientele than the rest of La Comer’s stores, City Market offers a vast range of imported and gourmet items, said Oscar Rojas, regional subdirector for the chain.
