Amnesty program for delinquent drivers

Owners of Mexican-plated cars that have yet to pay their annual license fee (refrendo), as well as drivers with unpaid infraccionces (tickets), are getting a break from the State Finance Agency (Sepaf).

The amnesty program “Pon tu vehículo al día!” (Get your vehicle up to date!) started this week, and will run through December 28. Sepal is offering a 70-percent discount on all fines accumulated for non-payment of the refrendo, just as long as the delinquent motorists cough up by the deadline. Late-payment fees kicked in last June  The same discount can be obtained for those with outstanding traffic fines, excluding anyone sanctioned for drunk driving, or having driven or parked in lanes designated exclusively for public transport.

The discounted fines can be paid at most Sepal offices in Jalisco. However, it’s best to check at http://sepaf.jalisco.gob.mx/aldia to ensure the office selected has the appropriate mechanisms to accept payment.  An ID, proof of address and CURP number are required to obtain the discount. Go to the Sepal office at Pedro Moreno 281, Guadalajara centro, for more information, or call (in Spanish) (33) 3668-1726, 3668-1700, ext. 33222 or 31757.
