A decade since last case of rabies in humans in Jalisco

It has been ten years since a case of rabies in humans has been registered in the state of Jalisco, Health Secretary Fernando Petersen Aranguren noted this week.

Petersen highlighted the stat this week during Semana Nacional de Vacunación Antirrábica Canina y Felina (National Rabies Vaccination Week), which concludes March 31.

The last case of rabies in a domestic animal was recorded in 2011, in a dog in the town of La Barca.

Authorities hope to apply some 770,000 free rabies shots over the duration of the week.  A certificate is issued to the owner of each animal vaccinated.  Zapopan residents can take their animals to Plaza Juan Pablo, across from the Basilica for free vaccinations.
