Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’ comes to GDL

Fêted local filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will film a portion of his new stop-motion feature production “Pinocchio” in Guadalajara next year.

The bulk of the filming is set to take place in Portland, Oregon, between January and May 2020.

A new stop-motion studio, El Taller del Chucho, is being set up in Guadalajara as part of a project launched by Del Toro last year. The space is under construction in the Calle 2 complex on the city’s northern perimeter and is likely to be ready by the end of 2019, the filmmaker said in a recent interview.

Del Toro was in Guadalajara for two free concerts featuring music from some of his feature films over the years. Both were packed.  He also headed a few guided tours of the “Monsters” exhibition at the Museo de las Artes, which showcases more than 500 items from his films and his personal collections. The show is up until October.
