Government to invest in guns

Recognizing that Mexico’s security forces are under-equipped to confront the firepower of the criminal cartels, federal authorities are planning large purchases of weapons to correct the situation.

The government has announced it will spend 228.9 million pesos (US$11.8 million) on the purchase of almost 10,000 new small arms, light and automatic weapons, principally for state and municipal forces around the country. The purchases are part of a plan to upgrade the nation’s regional security forces with improved equipment and resources.
