Sandra Brown Kingham

Sandra Brown Kingham died December 2 at the age of 73 in her home in Chapala after a long battle with leukemia.

Born in Kitchener, Ontario on September 22, 1943, Brown grew up in an Air Force family which instilled in her a love of travel. Growing up, her creative talents were devoted to drama clubs, which continued into her years behind the scenes in musical productions in Chapala.

Brown graduated from Teachers’ College in Peterborough, Ontario and after a brief time teaching in Kitchener-Waterloo, settled in Woodstock, Ontario, where she taught in the Special Education programs from the mid 1970s to 90s.

She enjoyed world travel, encompassing cruises, balloon rides over the Serengeti Plains in Kenya, riding elephants in Nepal, and visiting Mexico.

Around 1999 she retired and moved to Chapala, where she volunteered with animal shelters and local charities, and made many friends.

Brown is predeceased by her father, Squadron Leader Robert Brown (2006), mother Margaret Cheyne (2015)0 and brother Grant William Brown (2013). She is survived by her sisters Susan Brown and Barbara Sutcliffe (Alan), and nieces and nephews Taffawa and Fatima Brown, and Nathan, Graeme, and Danielle Sutcliffe.

Brown has been cremated and will be interred in the family plot in Kitchener next spring. Gifts may be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or your local animal shelter.
