New state legislature installed

The 62nd Jalisco State Legislature was sworn in last week with a decidedly different mix of politicians than in the past.

The presence of just four legislators out of 38 from the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) demonstrates how far this once-mighty party has fallen in recent times. The rest of the chamber is made up of 14 Movimiento Ciudadano legislators, nine from the Partido Accion Nacional (PAN), seven from Morena, two from the Partido de la Revolution Democratica (PRD) and one each from the Partido Verde (PVEM) and Partido del Trabajo (PT).

The MC’s Salvador Caro, the former chief of police in the last Guadalajara municipal government, will preside over the chamber’s first session, which began November 1.
