Might killer pitbull’s life be spared?

The life of a pitbull that attacked and killed a six-year-old boy in Zapopan on February 22 has been temporarily spared while the police investigation into the incident continues.

Zapopan Mayor Pablo Lemus said the municipality had been asked by state investigators not to sacrifice the canine just yet.

The boy had wandered from his home and climbed a tree, attempting to cut down some guamúchiles, but fell onto the rooftop of an adjoining property where the dog was kept.  Unfortunately, the owner of the property, located in the Lomas de la Primavera neighborhood, was at work, and no one else heard the cries of the boy until it was too late.

The owner of the dog admitted that the canine was overly aggressive and should probably be put down. The dog is currently being housed at Zapopan’s Protección Animal facility.

Lemus also raised the possibility that the pitbull’s life could be spared if a suitable candidate willing to adopt the dog comes forward.
