‘Dog killer’ arrested in Tala

Police have arrested a private security guard suspected of mistreating, and possibly killing, as many as 50 dogs at his home in a subdivision of the Jalisco town of Tala.

According to several news reports, Eduardo “N” would scour the streets for stray dogs, capture them and take them back to his duplex house.

There, neighbors told reporters, he would abuse and kill them, sometimes setting them on fire.

One report said that neighbors could hear the dogs “screaming” as he killed them.

At the Tala property, investigators reportedly found several decomposing dogs, at least 11 plastic bags with the remains of dogs, as well as charred bones in the garden and patio.  They also found ten dogs living in the house.

Neighbors said they had tried unsuccessfully to alert authorities to the man they called “mataperros” but were ignored.

One report said Eduardo “N” had previously faced prosecution for throwing a dog from a second floor window in Zapopan in 2014.

Another report that outrages animal rights activists noted that Tala authorities are likely to release Eduardo “N”, as there may be insufficient evidence to charge him with animal abuse.

The recent case in Jalisco comes on the heels of a horrific incidence of animal abuse reported in the State of Mexico, where a man was arrested after throwing a live dog into a pot of boiling oil.
