Briefly: Electricity costs fall

According to the Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) website, over the last year electricity costs for industrial users have fallen by 25.7 percent, while the decrease for domestic customers on the higher consumption DAC rate was down 7.5 percent.

Census takers gear up for four-week household surveys

Personnel employed by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) will hit the streets Monday, March 2 to initiate a four-week survey covering 6.1 million home addresses nationwide.  The program will encompass door-to-door visits in target neighborhoods, subdivisions and gated communities located in Guadalajara and the Lake Chapala area, including the homes of full and part-time expatriate residents.

Hay literature festival cancels Veracruz event

The Hay Festival of literature and arts has cancelled its event in Veracruz in protest against the failure to protect freedom of expression in the state. Organizers of the event said that 800 writers around the world had contacted them asking for the cancellation, following a spate of attacks on journalists. In January, Moises Sanchez became the 15th journalist to be killed or disappeared in Veracruz since 2010.
