Inflation puts Three Kings Day out of reach of many Mexicans

2022’s inflationary spiral has pushed up the cost of celebrating Three Kings Day, according to the National Alliance of Small Merchants (ANPEC).

Price increases to flour, oil, butter, eggs and other ingredients over the past 12 months mean that the oval Rosca de Reyes sweet bread enjoyed by millions of Mexicans on January 6 now costs an average of 33 percent more, said Cuauhtémoc Rivera, president of ANPEC.

Chocolate, the favored drink to accompany this treat, has also gone up significantly, he noted.
