Parade honors state fair’s 50th year

An estimated 8,000 people lined Avenida Chapultepec Sunday to watch the colorful parade marking the start of the annual Fiestas de Octubre (state fair), now in its 50th year.

The crowds cheered loudly as they greeted floats, folk dancers, marching bands, the fiestas queen, a motorcycle acrobatic team, charro horsemen and women,  clowns and cartoon characters along the two-kilometer route. Plenty of attractions can be found at the Fiestas fairground at the Benito Juarez Auditorium (Alcalde and Periferico), which is open daily from noon through Sunday, November 1.
