Cochera Cultural brings grandmother’s tale to life

“Queen Xochitl, the woman with the golden velvety skin came to bathe in the enchanted water hole … Alone in her meditations, she heard the musical sound of a drop of water falling from the grotto ceiling, ‘Xic Xic.’

Enchanted by the beautiful sound she declared, ‘Ah! This place shall be called Axixik,’ the place from where water flows.”  La Leyenda de la Reina Xochitl-Michi-Cihualli, presented October 7, was a triumph on many levels. The story of Ajijic’s origins, as passed down through generations to local artist Antonio Lopez Vega, was brought to life in a dazzling stage production by the workshop group La Cochera Cultural. Featuring fabulous costumes, props, special effects and the sounds of ancient Mexico, it was a shining example of the wonderful things that happen when children and adults, people of different nationalities, organizations and businesses put their hands and hearts together in a common cause. Bravo!
