Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Flashes of Delight,” Sunday, June 11.

Oftentimes life offers up little gifts of joy and delight, sometimes unexpected, even intense, oftentimes brief, though the warm memory of such gifts lingers. Like a gemstone we hold up to sunlight, the delight sparkles in unexpected patterns. Delight is rarely something that we can make happen, beyond our holding up the gemstone. Yet what a gift when we receive it. In this service, we’ll explore some little flashes of delight from the gems around us.

Michael Swords will be service associate.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.

Carretera Chapala-Ajijic No. 10, Fracc. Chula Vista, Chapala

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Sunday, June 11, Pastor Wayne will talk about “Ancient homily and early sermons.”

Typically, sermons have three points. This is a practice that developed, after New Testament times, when preaching was influenced by the rhetorical theory of Aristotle.

But because 1 Peter has many intriguing and controversial verses, I am going to quickly examine several of them. So this message will be more like what is called an ancient homily. Early sermons just examined scriptures word-by-word, verse-by-verse and added an introduction.

So the question for us now is how we as believers today understand such things as wives submitting to husbands, slavery, and Jesus descent in the hell.

English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m. Spanish service begins 11 a.m. The English service also streams each Sunday at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

There is coffee and refreshments after the service in the Narthex.

Everyone is welcome to Wednesday drop-in Bible study at 10 a.m.

If you need a ride, or more information, call 376-106-0853, Thursday, before 4 p.m.

Abundant Life Church

Have you ever needed a cosigner? When starting out in life or even after a lot of living and then moving to a foreign country, many will need a cosigner. Someone who is solid. Someone who is reliable. A cosigner has his name on the line to pay the bills for the one who is unable to do so. Jesus is our cosigner, since we cannot pay the price of sin on our own. Come Sunday, June 11, as we celebrate knowing God is thinking of us and as a good and established father comes and puts His name alongside ours. Jesus is the guarantee of the new contract that we have with God.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico. English-language services are Sunday, 10:30 a.m. Bible study in English is held at 11 a.m. each.
