Artists unite to rebuild a viable association

Anxious to pick up the pieces after the recent demise of the Artists Alliance of Lake Chapala (AALC), members of the group are putting their heads together to develop a new association and rope in former members of its predecessor, the four-decade-old Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA).

pg11aA preliminary get-together of interested parties took place on February 23, followed by a more substantive meeting held on Monday, March 11 with about 40 artists present. Facilitators guiding the second meeting were Melody Ann Peterson, Kathie Karancz and Betti Clark.

The first item on the agenda was a recap of AALC’s financial status and what is known so far concerning its unpaid debts, calculated at 34,905 pesos. Funds pooled from the AACL investment bank account for 2,461.71 pesos, plus contributions collected among members are being applied to pay off pending bills and reimburse Peterson, who announced that she was covering the remainder of the debt out of pocket. Details are laid out in the meeting’s minutes.
