Prepare for an emotional rollercoaster with award-winning Nova Scotia playwright Daniel MacIvor’s “The Best Brothers.”
This sharp, witty play explores themes of death, dysfunction and sibling rivalry through humor and heartfelt moments.
When brothers Kyle and Hamilton Best reunite after their mother’s unexpected death, they must confront her affairs, as well as their long-standing rivalries and unspoken resentments. The custody of their mother’s beloved dog, Enzo, becomes a pivotal point in their reconciliation.
MacIvor’s unique twist features the late mother appearing through the brothers’ perspectives, adding depth to their relationship. It’s an incredibly interesting device because MacIvor has each brother playing their late mother the way they saw her.
The play promises laughter and tears, especially during the unforgettable funeral scene; so bring your tissues! Starring Brian Kaulback and Patrick Trotter (in his Bare Stage debut), and directed by Darlene Sherwood, The Best Brothers is an engaging experience for anyone with or without siblings.
