In total there will be eight double-sided frames, to show 16 images. The cost of two of the frames has already been covered.

New art studio

Local sculptor Rainer recently decided that after four years in his studio at Constitucion 33a, the place had started to feel rather cramped.

This was especially true when he tried to accommodate fellow artists who were keen to collaborate on some of his larger projects.

Rainer’s new studio, in the heart of Ajijic at the corner of the plaza and Paroquia (above the ice cream parlor La Michoacana), is a light-filled and airy second-floor space that overlooks the local scene.

As of August, the studio will be able to provide a variety of community orientated activities, including art classes given by artists who are recognized experts in their field.

Planned are painting on silk by Camille Boeckmans, engraving by Herculano Alvarez, large scale pencil drawing by Alessandra Parachini, and sculpture by Rainer. Because of its large size, the studio will also be able to accommodate guest artists who wish to use its facilities for their own projects.

Instead of producing solely sculptures and his special relief panels, Rainer and some fellow artists are proposing to begin a program of contemporary art combined with design for custom-made wall panels, cocktail tables, doors, screens and room dividers. He says the studio can produce concepts and prototypes for anyone with such a need.
