Ribera Arts Review - December 19, 2015

Art Opening

The artists of Gallery Los Amigos are hosting an exciting annual Christmas exhibit of their current work on Friday, December 18, noon-5 p.m. Wine and snacks will be served to guests.

This congenial group reminds local artists that one spot remains open in the gallery for a fellow artist to work. Those interested can talk to Victor Romero in the gallery.

The gallery is at Javier Mina 35, Ajijic.

Grand Opening

The wait is over and the mystery about to be revealed. ARTS, the new art gallery in Centro Laguna owned by Ana Romo and Ted Shaw, opens with a bang on Saturday, December 19, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Visitors will encounter the usual speeches, ribbon cuttings, complimentary cocktails and snacks, but more importantly, after the weeks of furtive activity and secret arrangements, the contents of ARTS will finally be revealed.

ARTS is in Centro Laguna, Local 13, just south of the food court and in front of the Scandinavia Bakery.

¨Las Tentaciones de los Pastores¨  (The Temptations of the Shepherds) will be staged at the Centro Cultural de Ajijic on Saturday, December 19, 8 p.m. A traditional pastorela based on Biblical accounts of the shepherds’ star-guided trek to Bethlehem, the light-hearted play will involve a cast of 30 actors directed by Belén Corona.

The program will feature Christmas carols in Spanish and English and Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.

OFIRC is a program created by Musica Para Crecer A.C. The main aim of the program is to use music as a means of social improvement and encourage responsibility, team play and good citizenship.

Admission to the concert is free but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Le Petit Cabaret

Six of lakeside’s favorite new singers debut as Le Petit Cabaret when they present a holiday party of familiar, sentimental songs, inspiring music and sing-along carols at La Bodega de Ajijic on Wednesday, December 23, from 3-5 p.m.

Don’t miss this great range of voices and music. Le Petit Cabaret features each of the six unique vocalists as they perform three memory-filled holiday solos. Call (376) 766-1002 for reservations. There is a 50-peso cover.

The Centro Cultural de Ajijic  is sponsoring a Christmas Eve exhibition of colored sawdust carpets with holiday motifs and artistic Nativity Scene to be displayed in the atrium of the San Andrés Church, December 24, 6-10 p.m.

Glengarry Glen Ross

The quintessential American playwright’s play, “Glengarry Glen Ross” by David Mamet, will be performed with an almost all-female cast at the Bravo! Theatre from Tuesday, January 5 through Thursday, January 14. Bernadette Jones is the director.

This show is traditionally acted with an all-male cast and has been done just a few times around the world with women playing the roles.

There are no changes to the script, which includes lots of “blue” language (so be warned).

Matinees are at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6 and Sunday, January 10. The evening performances at 7:30 p.m. are scheduled for Tuesday, January 5; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, January 7, 8 and 9; Tuesday, January 12 and Thursday, January 14.

Tickets are 200 pesos and available at Diane Pearl Colecciones, Mia’s Boutique or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
