Ribera Arts Review - December 26, 2015

Bravo! Theatre

“Glengarry Glen Ross” by David Mamet, the quintessential American playwright, will be performed with an almost all female cast at the Bravo! Theatre from Tuesday, January 5 through Thursday, January 14. 

Matinees will be held at the theater at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, Sunday, January 10 and Wednesday, January 13. The curtain goes up on the evening shows at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5; Thursday, January 7; Friday, January 8; Saturday, January 9; Tuesday, January 12 and Thursday, January 14. Contest Winners 

Lake Chapala Society President Ben White has announced the winners of the 2016 LCS Directory Cover Contest. Children from the LCS Children’s Art Program created paintings from two themes: LCS’ 60th anniversary and local landmarks. Entries were judged by board members Fred Harland, Lois Cugini and Pete Soderman.

Erika S. Morales, aged 16, won the first prize of 500 pesos and the honor of seeing her work on the cover of the directory. 

The second prize of 300 pesos went to 17-year-old Oscar Orlando Ibarra Lopez, whose work will appear at the beginning of the member listings in the directory. Erick Joshua Lopez Arceo, 10, took the 200-peso third prize and Richmond Clinton, 16, received an honorable mention and 100 pesos. The four students were each awarded a certificate of achievement.

The Life of Water

An all-day program to uncover and discover the miracles hidden within water is set for Wednesday, January 6, 10 a.m. at the Huerto Café in Riberas del Pilar.  

Some of the programs and experiments will look at how water wants to move in order to bring its life-enhancing qualities to us. 

The morning program includes music, poetry, instructional talks on Biodynamic gardening, Flow Form sculptures, experiments, pictures and demonstrations. After a health-full lunch, participants will use clay to build a large meandering stream as the final event. Cost for the day, including lunch, is 200 pesos. Boosting Ajijic Cares

Entertainer Mac Morison’s annual show, “One More for the Road,” featuring Judy Hendrick and Luci Merritt, raised close to 40,000 pesos for the Ajijic Cares organization. 

Ajijic Cares provides educational presentations and information for local schools and teenagers about preventing sexually transmitted diseases. Testing for the HIV virus and AIDS is also available.

Sip and Sketch

Unleash your inner artist: paint, drink and have fun in this special event with Rodrigo Zuioaga on Wednesday, January 20, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Studio 18 at Colon 18 in Ajijic.  The fee of 500 pesos includes all materials, one-half bottle of red or white wine per person and light munchies.  This class is limited to eight students.
