pg17aThe next event in the salon series, Artists Together, is Wednesday, July 12, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Garden of Dreams Boutique Hotel, Constitucion 105 in Ajijic. Featured artists are muralist and public artist Maureen “Momo” Brown from San Antonio, Texas; poet, performer and visual artists Pamela Sneed from Brooklyn, New York; and multi-discipline artist and sculptor Michael Pribich from New York, New York.

Voices on high

Las Voces del Lago, Lakeside’s newest community choir, under the direction of Ken Turner, with Don Beaudreau on piano, will give free debut concerts “Sing On This Day,” at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, July 28 and 29, 3 p.m. The 30 members of the choir will present a variety of music from traditional classical choral (sacred and secular) to folk, Broadway and pop tunes. The goal of the choir is to provide people in the greater Lakeside area an outlet and venue for group singing.

Auditions for Las Voces del Lago’s December 7 to 9 holiday concert at the Presbyterian Church, will take place August 28 and 29, 1 p.m.

Tuesdays, the full choir will sing a variety of classical, Broadway and pop tunes. This ensemble is for non-music readers, as well as those who can read music.

Thursdays, the sight reading choir will practice, singing a variety of challenging choral literature.

Opera

Family ambition collapses when they find out that the recently deceased Buoso Donati has left his entire fortune to a monastery. What macabre plan do his relatives develop? Gianni Schicchi, a comic opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini, will take the stage Friday, July 28, 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 29, 4 p.m. at the La Floresta Auditorio. Subtitles will be in English. Music directed by Rodrigo Leal. Tickets, 400 pesos, available at voyalteatro.com or at the theater box office, open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 7 p.m., Sundays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one and one-half hour before any show.

Summer Art Camp

The LCS Children’s Art Program is holding its annual Art Camp running from August 7 to 11, from 10 a.m. to noon each day. This popular community event usually attracts more than 120 local kids to various art workshops held over the five-day span. This year, Art Camp is offering 11 workshops including different painting media, sketching, mosaics, pottery, and corn husk flower making; plus a workshop for children aged five and under.
