Ribera Arts Review - July 22, 2023

Mexican music recital

Sunday, July 23, 12:30 p.m., a voice and guitar duet will offer us an excellent recital made up of representative pieces from Mexico.

Cristina Martínez and Israel Olea, on voice and guitar respectively, will perform in the coolness of the concert hall of the Centro Cultural González Gallo. Admission is free.

Lakeside Singers

Christine Wysock and Deborah Inkster-Bain, are renewing the Lakeside Singers choral group. They invite everyone eager to sing and/or play an instrument to get together every second Thursday, for a couple of hours, to share music, have fun and socialize. The inaugural get together will be Thursday, July 27, 1 to 3 p.m. at Christ Church Lakeside, the red door beside Smokehouse Restaurant. Absolutely no experience required, just the desire to experience a wonderful time. Attendance each session is not mandatory. There will be an electric piano available for anyone to use and they invite participants to bring along their guitars, ukuleles, hand and rhythm instruments.

The Lyric Songbook Indexes, listing many songs covering a great variety of musical genres from the 1930s through to the 1990s, will be used and copied in advance, for a nominal fee of 170 to 190 pesos. Each person will be required to provide their own binder. 

A discussion to take in everyone’s ideas and suggestions will be held for the first half of the initial get together, which will finish with a sing-along.

Opera

Gianni Schicchi, a comic opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini, will take the stage Friday, July 28, 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 29, 4 p.m. at the La Floresta Auditorio. Subtitles will be in English. Music directed by Rodrigo Leal. Tickets, 400 pesos, available at voyalteatro.com or at the theatre box office, open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4 to 7 p.m., Sundays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one and one-half hour before any show.

Voces Del Lago

The newest Lakeside area choral group gives its first performance, “Sing On This Day,” Friday, July 28, and Saturday, July 29, 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar.

Beans and Beer

The Dirty Black Beans will perform at the Saturday, August 5 Lake Chapala Society Beer Festival.

Sample more than ten different brews and enjoy music, food and a cash bar in LCS’s lush gardens, 3 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is 400 pesos.

Folkloric Dance

The Ballet Folklorico Municipal Tomatlan will give a free performance Sunday, August 6, 6 p.m. in the forecourt of the Ajijic Cultural Center.
