As May brings its familiar flurry of celebrations to Guadalajara, the city once again prepares for its annual May Cultural Festival, now in its 29th edition.

Running from May 7 to 29 at various venues across the metropolitan area, the three‑week event will feature more than 50 activities — many of them free — and bring together over 360 artists from eight countries, including Colombia, Spain, Australia, the United States, Canada, Austria, Germany and Mexico.

The Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s most distinguished folk dance companies, will present its 60th anniversary season “Corazón de México” on three Sundays in June at the Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas.

The final performance of the season before the Easter break sees José Luis Castillo take the baton: Antonín Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances No. 8, Furiant, and Violin Concerto in A minor, and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. Rachel Barton Pine of the United States is the invited violinist.
