How to be a good gringo

I think foreign nationals, or mostly the gringo communities in Mexico, believe they have no right to complain about anything happening here. At the very least, many of us just aren’t sure. So what’s okay?

Protesting 80 caged barking cock-fighters on the roof next door is okay, unless the birds are painted up with a partisan political slogan. Protesting pot holes wide enough to have a gift shop is okay. Protesting drug availability within a community is okay, promoting them is not.  If an Ajijic dentist puts one through a near-death experience, Mexican malpractice can be reported and one can sue.

The only prohibitions: Do not engage in Mexican politics, in any form. Article 33 of the Mexican Constitution states that “Foreigners shall not in any way involve themselves in the political matters of the country.” This is interpreted to mean that foreigners do not have the right to vote, run for public office, participate in any political protest or rally. As I  understand the ruling, you, as a foreign national, couldn’t even aid a Mexican running for public office. That can only be done in the United States by Russians.

And don’t dress up and dance like an Aztec. That’s cultural appropriation.
