Jazz nights
Café Andre Breton has weekly lineups for live jazz. Every Tuesday, it’s “Bourbon St.” with Lalo Melgar on guitar and Christian Jimenez playing keyboards. Then on Wednesdays it’s time for the Jazz Jam Sessions with Willy Zavala, from 9.30 p.m. Entry is free to both events. The Smoke Rings Quartet will also be playing this Saturday, from 9.30 p.m. Entry is 30 pesos. The Café Andre Breton is on Juan Manuel 175 in the Centro Historico. For reservations call 3345-2194.
National Theatre broadcast
Oliver Goldmsith’s 1773 classic play, “She Stoops to Conquer,” will be broadcast digitally from London’s National Theatre to the Teatro Diana on Tuesday, April 24, 8 p.m. It is an intelligent, funny and chaotic love story based around a dysfunctional 18th century family.
Marking the end of the third season of National Theatre broadcasts, the three-hour play will be performed in English, with Spanish subtitles. Tickets are available from the Teatro Diana or from www.ticketmaster.com.mx.
Children’s art workshop
Kids aged between 4 and 17 will exhibit 50 works inspired by the life and art of surrealist Spanish painter Joan Miro at an annual art workshop. The event has been running for nine years. Entitled “Dreaming of Miro,” this year it takes place Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m. at Avenida Chapultepec 198. Entry is free.
Bubble show
Don’t forget the Gazillion Bubble Show at the Trompo Magico museum on Sunday, April 29.
The show’s star and creator Fan Yang currently holds 16 Guinness World Records – most recently for having put 108 people inside a single bubble.
There are three show times: 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the Trompo Magico, Galeria del Calzado (Av. Mexico and Juan Palomar y Arias), Plaza del Angel (Lopez Mateos and Cubilete) and branches of Pastelerias OK on Av. Mexico, Av. Patria and in Plaza Patria.
