Looking for a franchise?

The eighth annual Expo Franquicias (Franchise Fair) takes place at Expo Guadalajara on Thursday, May 24 and Friday, May 25.

Some 120 firms from several nations, including the United States, will be offering franchise opportunities in Mexico at the event, which is expected to draw over 6,500 visitors. Organizers predict that 400 contracts will be signed at the fair, each one generating an average of four new jobs. For more information visit www.fif.com.mx/eng/showefg.html.

Wrestling

WWE returns to Guadalajara as part of its “Smackdown World Tour 2012” on Saturday, May 26 at the VFG Arena. Two prior dates, in Hermosillo and Aguascalientes on May 24 and 25, precede the Guadalajara function.

Among stellar WWE names scheduled for the Mexico tour are Hunico (previously Sin Cara Negro), Randy Orton, Kane, Daniel Bryan, Big Show, Sheamus, Mark Henry, Natalya and Alicia Fox.

The event stars at 8 p.m. at the VFG Arena, located at kilometer 18 of the Guadalajara-Chapala highway.  Tickets run from 280 pesos to 2,000 for a ringside VIP spot. They can be purchased at the venue’s box office or from Ticketmaster ar www.ticketmaster.com or (33) 3818-3800.

Lucha libre

Those who prefer the Mexican version of wrestling (lucha libre) should head over to the Arena Coliseo (Medrano 83, one block Calzada Independencia) on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. (60-140 pesos) or Sundays at 6:30 p.m. (20-140 pesos).  Call (33) 3617-6945 in Spanish for more information.

Chiapas cuisine

Chefs from the Pichanchas restaurant in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas – one of the most renowned in the state – will be preparing dishes at the Maria Bonita Restaurant of the Camino Real Hotel (Niño Obrero and Vallarta) through June 16.

The Magic Circle

Don’t forget Reporter contributors John and Susy Pint’s slide show entitled “The Magic Circle” at the American Society (Amsoc) on Thursday May 24, 11 a.m.  The Pints believe they have found the answers to these questions: Why are there so many beautiful places within easy reach of Guadalajara? And why so much diversity in landscapes, flora and fauna?

They should know. The Pints have been exploring Western Mexico for 25 years and are the authors of “Outdoors in Western Mexico,” as well as many articles in the Reporter.

The next meeting of the Mexpat group will take place at the Hotel Riu at Lopez Mateos 830, corner of Niños Heroes, on Thursday, May 31, from 7-11 p.m. Mexpat brings together a wide range of expatriates from diverse countries each month to network and get acquainted with new and old friends.
