Sex & Entertainment 2012, a trade show dedicated to the sex industry, continues this weekend at the Calle 2 complex on the northern Periferico (city beltway). Expect to find amatory articles and activities for all tastes, including the Beer Girls from Los Angeles, who douse themselves in suds for the enjoyment of spectators.  Porn industry stars will showcase their assets, as will a multitude of vendors of sex aids and toys.  Both male and female strippers will be on hand, organizers say.

Tequila Festival

Nicely timed to coincide with the International Mariachi Festival is the second Expo Tequila Tlaquepaque at the Centro Cultural El Refugio, located in the center of the city suburb renowned for its arts and crafts.

Open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day from Thursday, September 6 to Sunday, September 9, the expo will showcase dozens of brands of tequilas, offer tastings, art exhibits, competitions for bartenders and mariachi and folk dance presentations.  Tours to the nearby Tequilas del Señor distillery can also be arranged.

A mariachi festival gala will be held at El Refugio after the expo closes at 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 8.  Sunday will see hourly shows starting at 3 p.m.

One local craftsman is expected to present the biggest tequila bottle in the world and set a new Guinness record.

An interesting feature will be workshops aimed at young people designed to inform them about acquiring responsible drinking habits.

Around 1,500 visitors are expected at the expo, including 40 buyers from the United States, according to Roberto Prieto, president of the Tlaquepaque Chamber of Commerce, organizers of the event.

And the good news about this expo: entrance is free!

French cinema

The Cine Foro in the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) administrative building is hosting two weeks of French film from September 7 to 20. Contemporary French movies will be shown with Spanish subtitles everyday at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. The cinema is located on the first floor of the UdeG building on Avenida Juarez at the intersection with Enrique Diaz de Leon. Independence Day

Tren Ligero & dance

It’s an unusual venue but the Plaza Universidad Tren Ligero (city subway) station in the city center has become a popular location for dance presentations. Three free shows are planned this month, on September 10, 21 and 28, all at 7 p.m.

Vicente Fernandez

Several sources confirm that famed archer singer Vicente Fernandez will make the final appearances of his long career at the Fiestas de Octubre.  Fernandez will perform in the Palenque (cock-fighting ring) on October 11, 12 and 13, with tickets set from 800 and 1,600 pesos.  Other stars booked for the shows (which begin around 11 p.m. each night at the arena inside the Benito Juarez complex include Banda El Limon (Oct. 18), Gloria Trevi (Oct. 19), Jenni Rivera (Oct. 21), Joan ~Sebastian (Oct. 26) and Alejandro Fernandez (Nov. 2 & 3).  Tickests a ret already on sale at Super Colchones Andares, Hotel Mision Carlton and Fiesta Americana Minerva, as well as online at www.tickettap.com.mx.
