St.Mark’s Anglican

Sacred music during the Advent and Christmas seasons will be the beneficiary of a bake sale Sunday, November 11, 11:45 a.m. at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Guadalajara.

“Some bakers have already begun,” said choir singer Marcy Matthew. “We hope to see a lot of regulars and friends here for the 10:30 Mass or afterwards at 11:45 for the sale. Proceeds are sorely needed so that we can present our usual lessons and carols and Christmas Eve worship concerts. We invite special singers for those events. Of course, we always have our wonderful organist, Ana Silvia Guerrero.”

She added that the choir boasts several other professionals, including Director Debra Rodriguez. Outstanding tenor Dale Hawn often sings, along with bass Robert Wilkes and soprano Colleen Blake.

Baked goods purchased at the sale can be taken home or eaten in St. Mark’s garden or parish hall.

St. Mark’s is located at Aztecas and Chichimecas in Colonia Monraz, a two-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico and near the end of Bus 33-A. (33) 3641-6620. Website: www.stmarksanglican.org.

Soccer offer

Guadalajara soccer club Chivas are offering food and drink for just 10 pesos to ensure a full crowd in the Omnilife Stadium for the Sunday, November 11 showdown with Tijuana.

The regular soccer season comes to a close this weekend and Chivas must win their final game to guarantee a place in the playoffs.

Chivas have struggled to fill the Estadio Omnilife (Circuito JVC 2800, Zapopan) since vacating the Estadio Jalisco in 2010, but club owner Jorge Vergara is determined to ensure an electric atmosphere by reducing prices. Pizza, beer and sodas normally priced at 45, 35 and 25 pesos respectively will all be on sale for just 10 pesos during Sunday’s game which kicks off at 5 p.m. Tickets remain at regular prices, ranging from 70 to 600 pesos.
