Tlaquepaque fiestas redux
If you regret missing out on Tuesday evening’s Independence shenanigans there’s a second chance to experience their patriotic flavor at Tlaquepaque’s delayed festivities this weekend.
The Guadalajara suburb and crafts center has planned a fiesta beginning 6 p.m. on Saturday. September 19 in the downtown core, with entertainment building up to the “grito” ceremony later in the evening. Expect folk dance troupes, bandas and other singers to take the stage.
The traditional civic parade is scheduled Sunday, September 20, 10 a.m., also in the Tlaquepaque centro.
Property, fashion at Expo GDL
Two trade shows for the general public are scheduled at Expo Guadalajara this weekend.
Homes for sale: Anyone in search of a property to buy in Guadalajara metropolitan area might find what they are looking for at Expo Casas y Terrenos, on Saturday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20.
Most of the city’s leading real estate developers and companies will be present at the show. Open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Cost 20 pesos per person, 30 pesos per family. Free entry between 10 a.m. and noon.
Retail therapy: If brand-name clothes, shoes and accessories turn you on, then the eighth edition of Expo Outlet de Marcas at Expo Guadalajara might be just the place to spend a few hours this weekend.
Names such as Lacoste, Lob, Levi’s, Dockers, Ralph Lauren and others will gather under one roof offering discounts between 40 and 70 percent, say organizers.
The event began on Thursday, September 16 and is open daily through Sunday, September 20, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free entry.
Expo Guadalajara is at Avenida Mariano Otero and Avenida las Rosas, four blocks from Plaza del Sol. Parking available.
Famed writer to be Illustrious Citizen
The remains of famed Jalisco author Juan Jose Arreola will be deposited in Guadalajara’s Rotunda of Illustrious Citizens in a ceremony planned for Monday, September 21 – the writer’s birthdate. Arreola was born in Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco and is renowned for works such as “Confabulario” and “La Feria.” Arreola has served as the literary inspiration for a legion of Mexican writers who have sought to transform their country’s realistic literary tradition by introducing elements of magical realism, satire and allegory.
Sculptures set for suspension bridge
A series of 16 award-wining sculptures are set to adorn two prominent public spaces in the metro area, including the “linear park” running beneath the suspension bridge at Lazaro Cardenas and Lopez Mateos. The works, all past winners of the Juan Soriano Prize, will also be showcased on a section of Avenida Mexico, between Leñadores and Juan Palomar y Arias.
