New bistro books benefit brunch

Baya Bistro, lakeside’s newest eating-out option, is more than just an attractive spot to enjoy a great meal. It’s an out-of-the-box enterprise that wraps together a menu of healthy dishes, fast food service, customer comforts and financial support for good causes.

Alex Tovar and Bert Klein, co-owners of the handsome tropical style open-air palapa, offer an enticing array of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections with a heavy influence Indonesian cuisine. They are also committed to regularly contributing a portion of their profits to the Huntington’s Disease Foundation and local charities such as Hope House and Love in Action.

The restaurant has slated a benefit brunch for Sunday June 24 as a fund-raising for FM4 Paso Libre, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting undocumented Central American migrants as they pass through Guadalajara en route to the United States border. The group operates a shelter located near the railroad tracks that provides food, clothing, temporary lodging, medical attention and legal advice to distressed travelers. (Learn more about the organization at http://fm4pasolibre.org/fm4.html.)

The event will feature a full short-order breakfast menu prepared by guest chef Yuval Ochoa, the former executive chef for the Chivas soccer team who currently cooks for Celebrity Cruises. Options will also include cereals, fruit platters and Baya Bistro’s signature energy drinks. The complete meal price is set at 200 pesos per person, with service running from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Baya Bistro is located on the highway in San Antonio Tlayacapan, just across the road from Superlake.
