Chupinaya run set for August 26

Ajijic’s sixteenth annual extreme terrain runner’s challenge is slated for Sunday, August 26.

The Chupinaya race has two components. In the main event competitors make a 13.8 kilometer loop from the central plaza to the peak of the mountain range overlooking Ajijic and back to the starting line, navigating a rough and often muddy track to and from the summit, 2,400 meters (7,875 feet) above sea level.  The parallel 6.5 kilometer recreational route follows a lower path appropriate for runners of lesser stamina and hikers more interested in exercise and diversion than beating the clock.

The sign-up fee paid before August 17 is 200 pesos. For full details look up Chupinaya Ajijic on Facebook, or visit the Gonzalez family glass and frame shop located two blocks east of the plaza at Guadalupe Victoria 38.
