Manix revs up for silver anniversary

While countless north shore restaurants have come and gone over the last 25 years, Ajijic’s Manix stands among the few that have managed to survive through thick and thin. Founded in 1987 by brothers Manuel and Hector España, it’s an establishment that has maintained popularity among discerning diners with consistently great food and unmatched friendly service.

Like many other lakeside businesses, Manix has faced unprecedented challenges in recent months. But the España brothers are forging ahead with undaunted spirits and some fresh ideas as they approach the September 19 silver anniversary mark of their family-run enterprise.

A series of special events are programmed for next month:

September 15 - Viva Mexico Independence Menu, with a choice of classic main dishes: Chiles en Nogada, Pork Birria, Chicken Pipian, or Huitlacoche Crepes. Live music by Frankie Dino, 6-9 p.m.

September 16 –Manix will close shop to host a community friendship Dia de la Independencia Fiesta on the grounds of the Lake Chapala Society, 2-6 p.m.

September 19 - Anniversary Day Celebration Roast, special menu featuring Roast Suckling Pig and Roast Chicken to complement a light-hearted “roast” of founding proprietor Manuel España by his friends and family. Live music by Ricardo.

September 22 – Cross-Borders House Specialties: dine on Mexican Flag Salad, followed by Salmon Teriyaki or Grilled Dijon Chicken Breast entrée, and Baked Alaska for dessert. Frankie Dino entertains with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley impersonations.

September 29 – Anniversary Finale, a full-blown Roman Feast: decadent buffet dinner service, toga dress optional. Live music by Frankie Dino.
