Chapala celebrates San Francisco

Festivities honoring Chapala’s patron saint St. Francis of Assisi got underway this week and will continue daily through October 4. Highlights include the pilgrim processions that run along Avenida Madero, starting at 6:30 p.m. from the north end of town with a visiting religious icon from other parts featured each evening. Cultural events are held outside the church following 7 p.m. mass. Mechanical rides, fair games and food booths set up around the corner on Paseo Ramon Corona offer family-style diversion. Glittery fireworks displays blast off nightly around 10:30 p.m.
