Benefit to raise funds for local deaf/mute child

“Thank goodness that I was in the right place at the right time to learn about the existence of a doctor who can bring a whole new life to a child in San Juan Tecomatlan,” said Lakeside resident Sheila Paull.

Beautiful four-year-old Christian de la Cruz was born with nothing but tiny nubs for ears and he can’t hear and consequently can’t speak. There was virtually no hope until recently that Christian, a victim of Treachers Syndrome, would be able to hear and speak during his lifetime.

Paull learned that there is a doctor at the Shrine hospital in Montreal who specializes in giving kids like Christian the ability to hear.

A benefit event set for Thursday, March 28 at the Chapala Country Club will help raise the funds to take the child to Montreal as soon as all of the paperwork (passports, visas and such) is in place to begin the complex series of surgeries that will fix Christian’s ears so that they can funnel the sounds around him to his brain.

Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. There will be a cash bar and singer Carol Bedford will be there for your entertainment.
