Remembering Sandy

Sandra “Sandy” Williams, 71, a long-time winter resident from Ontario, Canada, lost her 10-month battle with stage 3 lung cancer on March 17.

To provide an opportunity for her many snowbird friends to participate, the celebration of life party she wanted was postponed until the fall. That event will now take place on Friday, October 25, from 3-6 p.m. at Williams’ condo (Villas San Jose at Calle San Jose 253-C, in San Antonio Tlayacapan).  Also at Williams’ request, this will be a joyful event with music and dancing, not a time for mourning.

A native of London, England, Williams emigrated to Canada in 1967. She became a pioneer in the direct marketing industry, establishing and managing two successful businesses in that field.

Williams first began wintering here in 2004, following several earlier visits, with her long-time partner John “Jack” Dunsmore. Following Dunsmore’s death from alcohol and tobacco related problems in 2006, Williams bought her condo in San Antonio with the expectation that it would ultimately become her full-time residence. In January 2008 she met Walter Hinchman, a winter resident from Colorado, with whom she partnered for the last five years.

With a warm, outgoing personality, Sandy never encountered a stranger she wouldn’t welcome or a dance she wouldn’t learn and enjoy. All who knew and loved Williams for her lively, caring, and care-giving personality are invited to participate in this celebration of her life. To do so, please inform Walter of your intent by 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 23 either by email or phone: wrhinch@ gmail.com, or 376-106-0910.
