Chapala’s calendar of Day of the Dead activities are getting under way this week with exhibitions of more than 50 Catrina figures going up on display at three waterfront promenade locations.

The first group of the emblematic fancily dressed female skeletons were unveiled Thursday, October 24, at Ajijic’s Malecon. The Lady Death parade inaugurations continue Friday, October 25, 6 p.m., at the Chapala Malecon, with live music by the Orquesta Tipica de Chapala and Saturday, October 26, 6 p.m. in San Antonio Tlayacapan, where Trebol World Music will perform.

The Catrina figures and their spectacular outfits were hand-crafted by local school kids, independent artists, businesses and community organizations. Organized under the auspices of Chapala city hall and Jalisco’s Ministry of Education, the displays will remain on public view through the first week of November.
