Canines set to be stars for a day

A Cause for Paws open house is planned at Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption center on Sunday, March 30,  from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to commemorate Global Stray Animal Day.

Stars of the event will be Lucky Dog’s selection of adoptable “Mexican Purebred” dogs. Headlining the fun series of doggie activities is the opportunity for attendees to vote for their favorite resident of this local rescue and adoption center.

Guests at the open house will enjoy a canine fashion show, doggie kissing booth, and the sale of pampered pet items. Be sure to check out the cooling jackets for those overheated pups in April and May and the thunder shirts to calm and sooth the nerves of the quaking canines during summer storms and year-round fiestas. There’s also a line of customized T-shirts and organic liver treats.

The event is designed to boost funding for the center before the donation slump of spring and summer which coincides with an increased number of abandoned dogs. All proceeds go to Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption, which is between Chapala and Santa Cruz on the road that extends from Av Cristiania (the street which passes Cruz Roja and Chapala’s Cristiania Park).

With this perfect rural location for dogs to exercise, become healthy and socialized and with the help of dedicated volunteers, the animals are well prepared to become members of a lucky family. To ensure that they are healthy, the dogs receive stellar veterinary care from the Ladron de Guevara clinic which ensures each dog is examined, vaccinated and wormed. Adopted dogs over six months have been spayed or neutered. Younger pups come with a half-price spay or neuter certificate and all are entitled to a free veterinary consultation during the first week following the adoption. Donations from adopters are appreciated; the cost per year per dog exceeds 3,000 pesos.  Regular Lucky Dog hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
