Children big winners at Country Club’s Amigo Cup

Seventy-six golfers teed off Thursday, April 3 at the Chapala Country Club in quest of the Amigo Cup Trophy. At the end of play, team number two, comprised of Jim and Suzy Park, Mike Sloan, and Margaret Walker, emerged victorious.

The real winners, however, were the children of the Country Club’s employees. All proceeds from this fund-raising event were earmarked for the Kids and Their Future fund, an educational support program to enable the club’s staff to meet educational expenses for their children.

The fund currently supports 31 students who are enrolled in all levels of schooling from primary through university. Also receiving financial aid are students attending the local Tecnologia and Conalep schools, as well as a chef in training. Four of the students are currently attending the University of Guadalajara. Graduates who have been helped by Kids and Their Future include accountants, teachers, a veterinaria, and computer specialists.

Second place was captured by the team made up of Mike Daniels, Larry Powers, Doug Archer and Paul Heckendorn. Third place went to Marilyn Edwards, Rob Edwards, Brad Clark and Johanna Clark.

Two highlights of the day included a hole-in-one by Marge Jacklin on hole 17, and the chance to meet four of the students who were able to attend the post tournament meal.

The Kids and Their Future Committee appreciate the support given by all the tournament’s participants and generous local businesses and individuals who contributed countless gifts for awards and door prizes.
