Post Seven, Shriners team up for fundraiser

Two of Lake Chapala’s favorite organizations, American Legion Post 7 and the Lake Chapala Shriner Club (LCSC) are joining forces to host a Labor Day celebration on Monday, September 1 at the Post in Chapala. Proceeds from this important fundraiser will go to the LCSC Transportation Fund.

“This will be the first time in recent memory” said Commander Tim Stern, “that Post 7 and the LCSC have worked together to benefit burned, handicapped and ill children. After the great way the Post the Shriners combined forces in 2013 to raise funds for the police communications tower, we knew we had to give it another go together.”

While most expats are familiar with Shriner’s Hospitals north of the border, not all realize that there is a Shriner’s Hospital in Mexico City. An important link in helping kids at this hospital is the transportation fund.

“It takes approximately 7,000 pesos to transport, and lodge a sick child in Mexico City during treatment” said Nobel Jack Norman of the LCSC. Commander Stern and Nobel Norman are convinced that this event will be very helpful in getting adequate care for the kids. Members of both organizations are working hard to highlight the needs of the children at lakeside requiring specialized care.

The Labor Day Event starts with a 1 p.m. social hour, followed at 2 p.m. with a great traditional picnic dinner including: barbeque pork ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread and either apple or pecan pie. Those attending will enjoy the 50/50 and wine basket raffles and entertainment by Eduardo.

Tickets are available at bar at Post 7 in Chapala, from Legion, Auziliary, and Shrine members. Tickets will go on sale August 9 for 150 pesos. With seating limited, be sure to purchase tickets early so you can help support the care of sick children. The event will be held at American Legion Post 7, Calle Morelos 114, Chapala.
