Cooks dish up Chinese & cake at monthly CASA meet

The August competition of the Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) was held during the Monday, August 18 monthly meeting at Min Wah Restaurant.  Categories in the competition were Chinese main dishes and cakes. Judging the entries in terms of flavor and presentation were Betty Leung, Alvaro Beas and Norma King.

Winners in the Chinese main dish category awarded first place to Catherine Suter‘s Calgary ginger beef.  Second place went to Margaret Ancira for her spicy duck Chinese tacos while the third place winner was LuzMa Grande’s chicken with stir fried vegetables. Cake winners were:  first place,  Collette Clavadetscher’s flourless chocolate cloud cake;  second place, Mary Ann Waite’s mocha  tres leches cake;  and third place, Roberta Hilleman’s spicy chocolate chip cake.  

The first place winners, Suter and Clavadetscher also took the top places in the People’s Choice voting and the presentation awards.

The next CASA meeting and competition will be held at Min Wah Restaurant at 4 p.m. on Monday,  September 8  when the competition participations will enter Lebanese or Turkish Main Dishes or berry desserts.
