Chapala mayor honors seasoned GR reporter

Distinguished Columbian journalist Javier Dario Restrepo (below center) and Chapala Mayor Joaquín Huerta (right) presented a plaque to the Reporter’s veteran news hound Dale Hoyt Palfrey recognizing her 21-year stint covering current events in the lakeshore region.

Restrepo was in town Thursday, July 9, as the mayor’s honored guest to share lunch and professional insights with members of the local press corps. Considered to be Latin America’s leading expert on ethics in journalism, he is winner of the 2014 Gabriel García Márquez Foundation Award for Journalistic Excellence. He talked about the new challenges new media face in the era of electronic communications, reminding reporters that “Ethics is not an occasional condition, but something that should always accompany the journalist like the buzz of a botfly.”
