Spearheaded by Barbara’s Bazaar partners Ricardo Quirarte and Thomas Thompson, the development of the sculpture garden and green area has gradually evolved since May 2013. The open space adjacent to the walkway at the far west end of the Ajijic Malecón is now graced with three extraordinary stone sculptures and two monuments that pay tribute to different cultures from around the globe, highlight the international makeup of lakeside’s population and honor distinguished members of the expatriate community.

The project has been entirely funded by private donors, with the government rubber-stamp and moral support of Ajijic administrator Hector España and Chapala Mayor Joaquin Huerta.

Thompson expressed hope that Mexican and foreign residents will continue contributing towards the addition of new sculptural works, lighting equipment and plantings to further enhance the area.
