Red Cross the big winners at Country Club golf tourney

The 96 golfers and many sponsors of the Annual Cruz Roja Golf Classic held Thursday, November 5 at the Country Club de Chapala added 200,000 pesos to the Chapala Cruz Roja new equipment fund.

The golfers gave their best shots for the hole-in-one prizes of a car offered by Toyota Dalton and a golf cart from Lozano, but no one drove away a winner.

The team of Bob Sergent, Bob Delaney, Carol Peel and Barry Pajak (not shown above) took first place in the tournament.

The Cruz Roja emergency team, recently returned from assisting in the aftermath of Hurricane Patricia, gave a demonstration of the lifesaving ability of the jaws of life, the pincerlike tool used to free people from mangled car wrecks.

After thanking all of the sponsors, volunteers and participants, tournament organizer Maggie Pye singled out the Country Club de Chapala for their continued support, as well as club professional Ramiro Barajas, restaurant manager Javier Flores, and greens keeper Mauricio Aguirre for their excellent work and extra effort.  Cruz Roja International Volunteers President Marjorie Kassier added her thanks on behalf of the institution.

Brian O’Neil won the putting contest that launched the tournament. His prize? Green fees paid for two at El Tigre club in Nueva Vallarta.
