Toy marathon set for Dec. 19

Feel that seasonal spirit of giving warming your heart? Chip in to Chapala’s ninth annual Juguetón toys for tots campaign and help brighten the holidays for hundreds of local underprivileged kids.

The gift collection marathon, organized by San Francisco parish curate Enrique Monteon Curiel and the church’s Salesian lay mission group (Grumis), will run around the clock from Saturday, December 19, 6 p.m., through Sunday, December 20, 9:30 p.m., at the staging area set up in front of the Fishermen’s Fountain at the south end of Avenida Madero, steps away from the waterfront.

Organizers hope to break last year’s record bounty of 2,736 new and gently used items that will be distributed among the community’s most needy families.

To attract donors, Juguetón wraps in a huge entertainment program lined up from start to finish. The bill includes dance, theater and musical acts of varied genres with appeal for a broad audience.
