Culinary Arts Society event a feast for the eyes

The Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) enjoyed a feast of vegetarian dishes and desserts of mousses, puddings and custards at their January 18 event at La Mision. 

A talk titled “Presentation on the Plate, You Eat with Your Eyes” was given by Hazel Tash, Mary Ann Waite, Amy Friend and Monica Molloy. 

First place and presentation winner in the vegetarian main dish category was Monica Molloy for her eggplant and chile rellenos with red pepper balsamic glaze. Second place went to Catherine Suter for her Forest Wellington and in third place was Jose Fernandez for his Moroccan vegetarian tagine with couscous. Patrick Winn won the People’s Choice award for a spinach lasagna with spicy arrabbiato sauce.

In the dessert category, Sally Meyers won first place and the People’s Choice award for her ebony and ivory mousse. Paulette Coburn was in second place for a sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and Roberta Hillerman’s chocolate berry mousse tied with Hazel Tash’s Bailey Irish cream mousse for third place.

Judges at the January event were Dr. Joe de Leon, Margery Eddington and Sandra Murr.

CASA holds its next meeting on February 15. The categories are Cajun/Creole and Anything Chocolate.
