Have Hammer fundraiser is a triumph

In one their final performances, The Tall Boys Band played in front of their largest ever crowd at the Have Hammer…Will Travel fundraiser last week.

For the first time, the woodworking school held its annual dinner/dance and silent auction at La Huerta Salon de Eventos.  Beautifully crafted furniture made by the students was prominent in the auction, along with a selection of other donated items. Two students demonstrated their impressive carving skills, while others helped as ushers and in supporting roles.

The tasty meal of charro beans, potato salad, BBQ chicken/ribs and flan prepared the participants for two and a half hours of dancing to the outstanding music offered by the Tall Boys.

The event was catered by Tony’s Bar and Grill and attracted its biggest ever crowd. And, also for first time, organizers hired security guards to protect vehicles and accompany tipsy guests to safe rides.

Have Hammer…Will Travel helps local children, youth and adults learn valuable life abilities along with carpentry and other woodworking skills.

The school hopes to use their most successful ever fundraiser to build momentum, funds and connections toward acquiring a permanent facility.
